I’m a blogger. I’ve been blogging since 2005 (!) at different places all over the internet, and my feelings about why I write blogs in the first place has not changed. It’s a great way for me to express myself creatively, let go of some stress and revel in the fact that being a blogger is essentially creating an archive of your life. One glance back through my blogger archives will confirm this. For example, did you know that I once schooled some random teenagers on abstinence? Or that I once discovered gold teeth in my house that I then sold to Cash4Gold.com? Or that I posted pictures of Baby J’s finished baby room only 48 hours before he was born? I also spent a few happy minutes reminiscing on my time in Hong Kong (where I discovered my beloved Diptyque and can now directly pinpoint the moment an obsession began), reliving the anxiety of waiting for my very first iPad to arrive, reading the many reasons I did not attend my High School reunion and wondering why on earth I gave away an US Weekly magazine back in 2006 blog contest.
Reading these archives makes me smile. It makes me laugh and it makes me remember why I love blogging in the first place. I also recently discovered a post that talked about my very favourite things from years ago and I had to seriously question exactly what was going on in my brain when I typed them. Who says things like they could type faster on a BlackBerry than an iPhone? So I thought I would take up this old habit here on Croissant Crumbs and share with you my favourite things for January 2016 so that I can look back 5 years from now and roll my eyes at the ridiculousness that is me today. Or, if I’ve really changed in the last 5 years and these things are all mainstays in my repertoire, then reward myself with a big glass of red wine. Hmmm… There’s one thing that has not changed in all my blogger years – my love of red wine.
I look forward to looking back on January 2016 at some point in the future. I hope to smirk at how dramatic I was with this point in my pregnancy, laugh at how I planned out my PowerBall winnings or smile when I look at this video of my no-longer-a-baby-about-to-be-a-big-brother J learning how to skate. Enjoy, future me!
