Part of the reason I bought my house was for three huge windows that allow all kinds of natural light into the room no matter what the weather. It’s been a work in progress over the years, but I think I can finally say that it’s practically done. So I thought I’d introduce you to my favourite room in my house, my living room! Can you tell it’s also the fave of a small black dog, who features prominently?
The walls were painted blue – a bolder choice for someone who lives in greys, whites and blacks… I KNOW – but we wanted something with a little more color to allow us to have pretty neutral furniture. We picked two pretty plain white tufted leather couches, a fabric beige one and added some pillows for decoration in differentiating blue patterns.
The tables are more “beach” than modern home, but I think the combination works well when you also consider the large beach painting on one side of the room. Yes, the little black dog does generally spend most of his time in the room as well, although he typically prefers the well-loved sheepskin that is under the table.
Some of my favourite things in the room include the details we’ve been able to add recently, like the tray re-purposed from another part of my house that has my current favourite candle and some cacti, along with some of the magazines (they’re old, I know) that inspired the very room you sit in.
Or details like an orchid that is finally reblooming, my favourite candle of all-time and a travel photo of Asia coupled with a shot of my son as a newborn. Remember at the beginning of the post I said the room was practically done? It’s the little details about what goes on tables, etc. that now need to come together in the best way I know how… With time. I love when things in a room have a story and they were specifically chosen for that spot in your house. That takes years to come together though, so I’m in no rush. New light shades are my first priority!
