Toddlers. Ugh. They one day become pre-schoolers and you’re left with an opinionated, stubborn little reflection of yourself who desperately wants to be a big kid. We decided to allow my 4 year old to grow up a little a few months ago when he outgrew his baby furniture and got a big boy bed and desk. The desk has sat empty for weeks, but I finally found just the right things to sit on it to make him feel like a grown-up while staying away from the typical tacky superheroes and primary colors that make me want to gag.
- I convinced my son that this “planet ball” above was the coolest thing ever by showing him where we live on it. He loves to spin it around and try and find where we live – I’ve lived such cool places as Australia, Germany and all over Asia on this learning curve.
- A big marquee that lights up of his “letter” was a highlight. On nights where he’s not sure he wants to go to bed, I turn on the lights and he’s magically happy to lie in his room and look at it. Plus, as you can see, it’s the only letter he shows any interest in trying to replicate while doing his “homework”
- Social Media inspired boxes for pens and pencils… Or Kleenex.
I know he’s growing up, and I’m sure I’m going to find out a whole lot more about challenging personalities in the next few years – but for now, I’ll settle with a victory in this battle over a stylish kid’s desk!
